Create Your Own Memoir!

Students,

Now it's your turn to write a memoir!  The topic of your memoir can be whatever you want it to be.  Just be sure to be creative!  Remember to follow the Six Traits of Writing.

Here are some topic ideas for your memoir to help you get started:

1. family vacation

2. a day at school

3. summer fun!

4. a trip to a theme park

5. your first day of third grade

This self revision sheet will help you organize and clarify your memoir ideas.  One by one, each point will help you make sure that you have covered all the important topics in your memoir.

After you have self-evaluated, show your memoir to a classmate and ask them to use this editing tool to be sure you have covered all the important points.  Showing your writing to another person will help you gain another perspective about what you have written and may help you to strengthen your text.  Then, upload your finished product to the Portfolio section of this website!

Please visit this website for examples of a 5 and 6 Point Rubric (scoring guide).  It will help with the organization of your memoir.

The following pdf document, retrieved from the Education Northwest website, is the 5 Point Rubric.  I follow this rubric frequently in class because standardized testing only rates material on a four point scale.  This will potentially give students a better idea of where they stand in relation to the standardized testing requirements in ELA.
