Improve Your Writing Skills!

Writing requires a combination of more basic skills than any other subject area.  It is a sequential process, much like reading.

Parents, you can reinforce the writing skills that are being taught in the classroom by:

1. encouraging your child to write about an experience that you participated in together.

2. writing thank you notes for birthday and Christmas presents.

3. writing letters to family members.

4. making a grocery store list.

5. reading from various genres to or with your child.

Students:

Don't forget to take into account the six steps in writing that we have learned in the classroom.

1. Pre-writing

2. Rough Draft

3. Peer Editing

4. Revising/Editing

5. Final Draft

6. Publishing
