NCSS Standards- 3rd Grade
Social Studies are not covered under the Common Core Standards at this time. Instead, there are separate national standards for Social Studies. These standards are broken down into ten different themes that are addressed within the curriculum each year.

They are:
1. Culture
2. Time, Continuity, and Change
3. People, Places, and Environments
4. Individual Development and Identity
5. Individuals, Groups, and Institutions
6. Power, Authority, and Governance
7. Production, Distribution, and Consumption
8. Science, Technology, and Society
9. Global Connections
10. Civics, Ideals, and Practices
The Social Studies content currently identified on this website, which covers information on the United States Government, primarily focuses on the NCSS theme of Power, Authority, and Governance. However, the Government unit covers multiple national standard themes. The link below provides further descriptions about each of the ten themes in Social Studies.

In class, we will address these themes over the course of the year. My goal for this year is to have the students become engaged with the material and to become involved in the society around them. I will be prompting students to investigate topics on their own, come up with their own questions about the topic, and learn to perform their own research to find an answer.
